Via Mare at NAIA Terminal 3

A trip to the airport could be so stressful, except when you can have some good food before your flight!

Via Mare can be found at the new food court area in NAIA Terminal 3. It is just by the door through the Runway Manila.

For a quick lunch, we ordered the following:

Gising Gising

Crunchy and delicious

Sinigang na Karne

Right amount of sourness.

Rellenong Bangus

Sweet and savoury milkfish meat mixed with tomato sauce.

Kare Kare

Peanut based sauce with vegetables and some seafood.

Rellenong Talong

Eggplant with sauteed ground pork wrapped in egg. I like this also, it’s very tasty.

And of course, a trip to Via Mare won’t be complete without having their famous Puto Bumbong.

Puto Bumbong is a Filipino dessert, steamed purple colored rice cake. It is served with Muscovado Sugar and Grated Coconut. It is associated to be a Christmas Dessert because it is usually found outside the church after midnight mass during the Christmas Season.

A packed meal just before a flight would do so much, for one, this will definitely make you snooze on that flight, before you know it, you have already landed on your destination.

Grand 1919 Cafe

If you work or live in Binondo, Manila and wants a change of scenery, walk ahead to Grand 1919 Cafe.

It will not only take you away from the hustle and bustle of Binondo but will also take you to a period in time.

Everything is grand in this place.

The grand main door entrance

Even the pathway going to the rest room was thought about

The building where Grand 1919 Cafe is located now is a 100 year old building. It was built in 1919 to house the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank.

A huge picture of Old Manila greets guests.

The bar is lighted up to give a dramatic look.

Every corner, rather everything in this place is instagrammable! The interior is nicely done. The lighting is perfect. You could choose to seat on leather couches or in wooden chairs.

There is also a 2nd floor because the 1st floor tends to fill. Wooden planks adorn the ceiling, it complements the whole look and feel of the furnitures. But it’s not dark and gloomy here, some chairs have splashes of color.

So enough about the place, let’s talk about the food! For something this wonderful and grand of a place, the pricing of the food tends to be on the expensive side. But, the quality is good. It’s a reward you may give your deserving self after a hard day’s work or even a break to a hectic day.

Salt and Pepper Squid at Php 330.00

Even if this dish is cheaper than the other items in the menu, it turned out okay. It’s crunchy and crispy, the squid is not chewy.

Kung Pao Chicken at Php 580.00

I really don’t think this is worth the price. Serving’s too small and the taste isn’t really that good.

Hawaiian Pizza at Php 520.00.

The serving is small but it does taste good. It is simple, with the usual toppings like bacon, ham and pineapple, but I love the overall taste of the pizza.

Cafe Americano at Php 150.00

Their coffee is so good according to my coffee drinker friends. Better than those famous coffee chains, if you know what I mean.

And it’s priced just right.

I heard the pastries are good, maybe next time.

What matters most is that we were comfortable on our table and we enjoyed the company of friends with good coffee!

Grand 1919 Cafe is located at Juan Luna Street Binondo Manila.

GPS Watch for Kids

The safety of our kids is of utmost importance. That is why it is imperative for parents like me to try whatever is available in the market to ensure the safety of my kids.

With today’s technology, a simple watch can turn into a very protective gadget for our kids.

I knew about this GPS watch which a friend gave to our daughter, and it has so many features. Thank you!

A very simple looking watch that can do so much!

The interface tells the time, the date, the number of hearts you sent your child, the signal and the battery percentage.

On the right side of the watch are 3 buttons.

The middle is the SOS button, press these more than 3 seconds and it will automatically send you an SOS message. You could either call your child or send a message.

The rightmost button is the one your child presses to answer your call.

The leftmost button is the one your child presses to record and send a message.

The left side of the watch contains the slots for the SIM Card and the USB for charging.

To recap, here are some of its more important features:

✩Voice – You can call and talk to your child as if it’s a mobile phone. Your child can also call you.

✩Message – You could send messages to your child. You could also send ❤💙💚💛💜 to show your love.

✩Location – It has GPS so you could track your child’s whereabouts.

✩SOS Button – If your child feels he/she is in danger, they could easily press the SOS Button. Or if your child is too small to learn how to message you. You could teach him/her to just press the SOS button if they want you to call them.

✩Foot Step – You could also track your child’s footsteps.

✩Low Battery Alarm – The parent could see the percentage of battery in the app.

Put a sim that has a data plan to be able to do the most important features of this watch. Make sure that it has load.

The parents need to download an App and also have data plan to be able to communicate with their kids.

Once that is out of the way, you are good to go.

We used this on my daughter’s recent field trip and it made me feel relieved to know where she was during the day.

There are so many GPS watches available out there. Why don’t you try it?

Ramen Bari-Uma Jr

Another gem of a ramen house, Ramen Bari-Uma Jr.

Bari means Super and Uma means Tasty. And the ramen’s really super tasty!

I love its interior. Red tiles adorn the corner end of the resto, while mirrors with painted Japanese words in red and black are placed on the side to make the place look bigger. To complement the red interior, furnitures like table and chairs are in cream.

Bright and airy, that’s the feel I got.

Let’s get to their Ramen.

The founder of Bari-Uma Jr wanted more people to enjoy good ramen at an affordable price. And I did enjoy my ramen!

Ajitama-Kuro Ton

Pork flavored Garlic soup, with Thick cut Charsiu and Ajitama (flavored egg) at Php 270.00

The garlicky taste and the rich broth gives the ramen its unique taste.

The picture doesn’t do justice to its taste. 😂

Ajitama-Siro Ton

Pork flavored soup with Thick Charsiu and Ajitama(flavored egg) at Php 230.00

The tonkotsu based soup really is rich and tasty.

Noodles are freshly made so that makes a huge difference. The Charsiu, though thick cut, is tender and it has that almost melts in your mouth feeling. The ajitama is cooked just the way I like it. The yolk is just the right soft.

Overall, I recommend this ramen place. It’s worth a try if you are in the area. Good for its price. Nice ambiance. Great and fast service.

Follow Ramen Bari-Uma Jr at their Facebook Official Page.

They are located at the 3rd Floor in SM City San Lazaro.

Geonbae Modern Korean Bar & Grill

Tried something un-commercialized for a change.

Geonbae (건배) actually means “cheers” in Korean.

So why not be happy and merry in this Korean Grill?

There are 2 packages.

The Php499.00

The Php 599.00 package was our choice since it’s a better list.

Initial set of side dishes when we arrived at our table! Good thing we reserved and got there on time! The place was packed, and it was a Wednesday night!

There’s cheese 🧀🧀🧀! The 🐭 in me just attacked!

Aside from the side dishes readily prepared on the table (in the picture above), there’s more that you could order, see below!

From appetizers to main dishes, we may have ordered 80% of the things in the menu!

Yeon Eo (Salmon Sashimi)

Ramyeun (Korean Ramen)

I love this! The ramen’s so tasty.

Galbi Jjim (Beef Stew)

It does look like it’s swimming in oil, but the stew was really good. There’s a lot of beef strips in it too!

Gyeran Jjim ( Steamed Egg)

Who would eat Korean without the steam egg? Get out of here! Take the rice out, but the egg must be present.

Myulchi Bokkeum (Anchovies)

Oh how I missed eating dilis! Go Kizip used to have yummy dilis and I’d be satisfied with that as my only side dish, and then they took it out of the menu! 😥

Anyway, Geonbae’s dilis will do for now. Can eat it to restart your taste buds. I munched on this for the whole night!

Korean Wings

Not a fan of their version, but I tried it anyway. I like my wings the buffalo way, this one’s a little sweet.

And since we were overwhelmed with what we were eating, there were some items that we weren’t able to take photos anymore.

Photos taken from Geonbae’s Official Facebook Page.

More off the grill items below ⬇⬇⬇

Fried Mandu (Korean Dumplings)

Saewoo Twigim (Shrimp Fry)

I had loads of this Korean Tempura! Kept on ordering and ordering and ordering…

Kimchi Takoyaki

Wasn’t able to taste it.

Bibimbap

An order of this will make you so full, so better share it with somebody.

Are you full now? We haven’t even started with their meats yet!

Grilling time starts now. Some of their meat are really full of fats, but we wanted to try all. So just grill and remove the fats! Also, after the batch where there were chicken, pork and beef, we tried to order more beef already. Best to order the hanger steak!

Here are some mouth watering photos from Geonbae. Their famous hanger steaks and galbi and beef brisket.

It’s really a matter of preference when it comes to the meat choice. What’s important is that you actually have something to choose from. Unlike other samgyupsal restos, there are real slices of meat here, and not just the scrap ones. 🤐

I would also like to commend the service staff who attended to us that night, even if it was buzzing and they are short staffed, (and raising arms to catch them sometimes got tiring), they still served with a smile and gave us everything we ordered. 🙌

So here we are with our tummies full, thanks to Geonbae!

Heads up, reservations can only be made during lean days. Better call 4298549 first to ensure that you have seats, it could get pretty crowded!

Geonbae is located at 115 Scout Delgado Street, Quezon City!

Parking can be a headache, the owners of the units in front of the resto could kill you with their eyes if you even attempt to park in front of their gates. 😂😂😂 I parked along Tomas Morato and just walk towards Scout Delgado.

Happy eating!

Flavors of Taiwan

Another hidden restaurant in San Juan found. Flavors of Taiwan specializes in Taiwanese Cuisine.

First time to dine here and there were some hits and misses.

These are what we ordered that night.

Xiao Long Bao

Xiao Long Bao’s becoming a staple because it’s one of our daughter’s favorites. Flavors of Taiwan’s version tastes okay. However, the cover breaks easily so the soup spills every too often.

Pork Dumpling

I like this better than the Xiao Long Bao. The meat filling is tastier. The serving size is just right.

Taiwan Sausage Fried Rice

Instead of the usual Yang Chow Fried Rice, order this. The Taiwan Sausages’ sweet salty taste pairs well with the rice.

Fried Kingfish with Mango Salad

Two thumbs up! The Fried Kingfish is so crunchy. The sweet mango sauce complements the fish.

Salt and Pepper Squid

Your usual salt and pepper squid. Lacks the crunchiness, but the squid is tender.

Three Cups Chicken

The chicken tastes fine on the outside, a little bland on the inside though.

There are a lot more items in the menu and we will definitely try them soon.
