American Tourister and HSBC

I was surprised when HSBC offered me yet another new card, HSBC Gold Visa.  Just a few months ago, I got an offer to get an HSBC Red Mastercard and I was able to redeem 3 pairs of shoes for free!

I am not one to shoo away offers like this so I proceeded to getting an HSBC Gold Card.  And unlike the Unionbank promo where I had to spend Php30,000.00 to get a World Traveller luggage, HSBC’s promo is to spend only Php5,000.00 and you will get an American Tourister spinner luggage!  Who am I to say no?

One or two trips to the grocery for household necessities will set you back at least Php 5,000.00.

And I am so happy that there were no problems with claiming the luggage as Rustan’s is the one handling it.  You just have to check out the days allowed for redemption.  Also, you have to be early so that they will not run out of stocks.  Better yet, you can call them to reserve.

We went to Rustan’s Gateway one Saturday to check out something and I just remembered that I have a luggage to claim.  I scrolled through my inbox to find the SMS from HSBC Redeem, took out my Gold card and Valid ID from my wallet, then presented it to the one in charge.

A few minutes after, we were on our way out of Rustan’s with the spinner luggage!

So here’s another luggage for my future travels.

What are you waiting for?  Apply for an HSBC Card now.  They have a new promo.  Get an HSBC Platinum card and get an American Tourister spinner luggage for free.  Here’s how!

World Traveller and Unionbank

Saw this advertisement and it was just right on time!  Immediately applied for a Unionbank Cebu Pacific GetGo Platinum Card through Unionbank’s website.  It was such a breeze.  Fill out their application form with your pertinent details and upload a copy of your financial document on their website.  Minutes after I pressed the Submit button, someone from Unionbank Cards already called me to verify my application.

I confirmed and about 2 weeks after, my new card was delivered.

It was really right timing since we were about to purchase airline tickets for a family trip.  If not for the airline tickets, I would have not reached the required spending of Php 30,000.00!

Terms & Conditions:

  • Card should have been applied for and subsequently approved on or before February 28, 2017.
  • Applicant is new to bank, meaning you don’t have any existing credit card yet with Unionbank within the last 3 months at the time of application.
  • Minimum spending of Php 30,000.00 within the promo period (May 31, 2017)
  • Registering and signifying your intent to receive the promo luggage at their unionbankph.com/freeluggage
  • Must retain the newly approved card for at least 2 years.

Once you have spent the required amount and registered, you will wait for 15 to 30 days to get a redemption sms.  They have a schedule and redemption sms are per batch.

I finally got my redemption sms and I immediately called the participating Travel Club branch nearest me to schedule my pick up.

Unfortunately, the Travel Club in Gateway told me that there were no deliveries yet and I have to wait for at least a month.  I tried calling the other branches but they said the same to me.  I called up Unionbank to complain.  My point is, we have already waited for the redemption sms for at least 15 days, it means they know how many of us qualified as they have already validated our purchases.  Telling us to wait for some more is not justifiable.

A few days after my complaint, I got a call from Travel Club Gateway that my World Traveller Luggage is already available for pick up.

I claimed the next day before they ran out of stocks again!

So here now is my World Traveler Metallic Grey Small Luggage with Item code WT14T45124-070 size 37x22x56cm with SRP of Php 4,490.00.

It has its own luggage cover!
Hard Shell for Delicate Items

With TSA Lock!

Covered compartment

Sturdy Handles

Redemption is until July 31, 2017.  So hurry and redeem before it’s too late!  Here is a list of the participating Travel Club Branches and its contact numbers:

  1. World Traveler Vista Mall – Tel. No. 941 9123
  2. The Travel Club South Mall – Tel. No. 800 0462
  3. The Travel Club SM Annex – Tel. No. 332 2307
  4. The Travel Club Gateway – Tel. No. 911 1482
  5. The Travel Club Abreeza Davao – Tel. No. 082 321 9377
  6. The Travel Club Robinsons Galleria Cebu – Tel. No. 032 261 5577

Not bad if you really have something to spend on.  Instead of buying a luggage, you get it for free!

Paper Moon & PNB Credit Card

We can’t help swiping our credit cards for some important things especially now that school is about to start.  How could we maximize these plastics? Find promos that will give you freebies while you spend!

Just discovered PNB’s Mabuhay Miles Credit Card promo!  And I guarantee you, swiping a PNB Card is so worth it!  You get to get vouchers which you could spend and earn mileage points which you could redeem for a free flight!  (Another story!)

Anyway, back to our promo.  PNB has partnered with Paper Moon and for a minimum spend of ONLY Php2000.00, you could get a Php100.00 Gift Certificate!  Then the amount of vouchers goes higher when you spend more.  Unlike other cards, there’s only 1 bracket to get a voucher.  It is okay if you’ve just spent the minimum required amount, but if you’ve spent more than that, it makes you feel a little bit “Lugi.” (At a disadvantage)

Then there’s more!  No need to wait for codes, it’s very easy to redeem!  Just collate your charge slips and present them together with your credit card at any Paper Moon store.  Just make sure that the dates of these charge slips start anywhere from March 1, 2017 onwards.  The store staff will give you these gift certificates once their system verifies your slips!

Want something better?  You can immediately use these certificates and this Summer is the best time to get those GCs as Paper Moon is having their own Summer Promo!

Instead of spending more than Php300.00 for a pair of Milk Crepe and a Drink, they are offering it for Php260.00 only.

I had the chance to taste 3 different flavors last weekend with the girls.

Original Milk Crepe

Chocolate Milk Crepe

Mango Milk Crepe

My favorite’s the Mango Milk Crepe!  Nicely paired with my Iced Cafe Mocha!

Perfect for chit chat with the girls on a Summer Afternoon!

Promo runs until May 31, 2017 so go swipe those PNB Cards now!

Reminders about Bank Checks

Effective January 20, 2017, the Monetary Board will be implementing the Check Image Clearing System.  This is a step towards a 1 day clearing system of other bank’s checks. Checks will be electronically remitted instead of transmitting them physically which takes 3 days to clear.

Since we need the best image possible, BSP came up with some reminders on how to handle checks.

1) Use of Dark colored ink.  Preferably Black or Blue Ink only.

2) Refrain from using correction tapes or correction ribbon in electric typewriters.  This covers the security features of the check.

3) Always start writing on the left most part.  That way, no words can be inserted.

4) To signify end of sentence, put “only” after writing the amount in words.  For the Payee and the Date, you could put “***” or “-” before and after.

5) When writing a check, treat it as something special.  Write nicely and legibly.  Make sure that all the words are readable and understandable.

6) Do not crumple, fold, staple, pin or bind checks.  This will also ruin the chance of the system to get a good image.

7) Checks must only be signed by authorized signatories.

8) The most important of all.  Never ever write checks that are unfunded!  Unless you want to see fireworks and pay a lot pf bank charges.

Hope this helps somehow.

Promo: HSBC Red

I got offered by a telemarketer and I am so thankful.  I was hesitant first but I gave in.

She offered me a new HSBC Red Mastercard and this card has more promos than the Platinum one.  It even has a new card promo.

Once approved, an accumulated spending of Php5000.00 will entitle you to Php3000.00 worth of free shoes from Payless Shoesource!  Neat right?

After spending, once you are qualified, you will receive a text message from HSBC redeem that you can now claim your shoes in participating branches.

The message will look like this:

Check the list of participating branches, not all will allow the redemption.

We went to the Paseo de Sta Rosa Branch to claim ours.

What better feeling than having new free shoes!  Of course, my kids have their own share too!

For the terms and conditions, check this.

To apply for a new card, go to www.hsbc.com.ph.

Public Service: Modus on Parking for US Visa Applicants

Our scheduled appointment was 8:45am.  US Embassy wants you to be there at least 15 minutes before your schedule.
Together with the kids, we left the house at 630am.  We got into the tail of traffic at Quirino Highway so we decided to take another route.  Fortunately, the longer route wasn’t as jammed as the previous.  We arrived at the US Embassy area around 730am.  Well, at least we have enough time to spare.

We looked for a parking space on a side street because all the service road parking near the footbridge was full already.  (The footbridge is the only way to cross Roxas Boulevard to go to the Embassy.)

When we found a parking space, an ate from the parking bureau immediately assisted us.  When finally parked, hubby rolled the window down, the ate said, “Embassy Sir? 100 po.” (She said parking is 100 pesos if you are going to the Embassy.)  Shocked of her announcement, we said “why 100? Holdap ah?” (We asked why 100 pesos for embassy goers, we asked her is this a hold up?)  She answered, “matagal kasi interview dun.” (The interview takes time.)  We tried to argue with her and she discounted the rate to 70 pesos.

What a shocker really!  The ticket’s print says that it’s just 30 pesos for the first 3 hours, then 10 pesos for every succeeding hour.  Even if we stayed until noon there, our parking should have been just 50 pesos.

And since we finished about 930am.  The 70 pesos we paid was just for 2 hours of parking.  A clear kickback of about 40 pesos. Grrr…

Funny thing is, when we were leaving the parking space, Ate was just standing there and not assisting.  Maybe she’s afraid that we will call her out with our parking fee if she gets near us.

Lucky her we were too happy with the result of our interview, we just let her be.

So guys, beware of these parking attendants.  If you don’t have a driver, make sure you don’t get hold upped by these attendants.  If you have drivers, better let them drop you off in front of the embassy and just let them know where to wait for you.

Good luck with the parking!

Another wonderful surprise! I got another email from the Cash Department of Bangko Sentral. My orders of the Php500.00 Papal Commemorative Coin have been granted.

Unlike the Php50.00 denomination, this one comes with a box. The coin is encased in a protective plastic.

Public Service: Money Money Money

It’s almost the end of the year and I want to remind you guys that the old bank notes will not be accepted for daily transactions come January 1, 2016.

How it looks ↓

image

Photo grabbed from www.gov.ph

If you have kept some notes like these in your baul (treasure chest), better take them out now and exchange for the newer bank notes which was launched last 2010.

Time to retire these old notes, they have been around since 1985.

To get a good look of the two bank notes, see next picture.

Photo grabbed from www.gov.ph

The old bank notes can only be used until December 31, 2015.  Don’t fret though if you still have some by January 1, 2016, banks and BSP can still accept and change your old notes into new notes.  You have 1 whole year to look for old notes that may be kept in your house or in the bank.

Make sure you are done by 2016.  The old bank notes will be demonetized on January 1, 2017.  It will have no value by then.

Why stress yourself next year?  You can do it as early as now!
