Caution Hot!

Check this new ramen house which you could mix with your choice of hotness!
Sounds hot right?  Check out this spicy restaurant.

They opened in Kapitolyo recently and the place is packed.

Don’t expect a full menu of ramen though.  Mixing and matching is their thing.

Our choices:

1) Beef with Egg Noodles in Classic Broth.  Level of spice – none.

2) Pork with Wheat Noodles in Asam Laksa.  Level of spice – super hot.

3) Pork with Egg Noodles in Classic Broth.  Level of spice – none.

Our verdict.  The noodles are served fresh.  But the overall taste is just average.  It’s worth the trip if the waiting time is not that long.

What I love is their Dumplings.  They have 2 kinds.  Pork Dumpling and Kuchay Dumpling.  They are both made fresh.  We had about 2 orders of this and before we knew it, dumplings’ all gone!

Would have tried their Dessert Bao Bing if we haven’t been too full.

Baguio 2017: Newtown Hotel

An impromptu trip to Baguio left us with no other choice but to find the most comfortable and cleanest hotel we could get at the last minute.

That is why I am so thankful for travel websites like Hotels.com, Traveloka and the others.  You can just go online, find a place and book easily.  Booking with these travel apps / websites comes with its own perks as well.

Like in Hotels.com, most of their hotels are included in the earn and redeem promo.  The more you book rooms with them, the easier you could get a free room.  This free room is redeemable anywhere in the world.

So anyway, we finally booked Newtown Plaza Hotel with the recommendation of a friend.  It’s a newly built hotel and it’s affordable, clean and modern.

We arrived midnight so checking in was a breeze.

Didn’t get much pictures of the room because it’s midnight and we were all tired from the trip.

The room is big and spacious.  There are 2 double beds.  The TV is huge! Ample space for our things.  We asked for an extra bed the 2nd night.
For Php1,200.00, this is what you get, a bed that could fit 2 more persons.

As for the bathroom…

The bathroom is spacious as well.  And the shower is the best ever!  I could stay longer than the normal under the hot shower.
The balcony and the view is just breathtaking!  So nice to wake up to a view like this!

Real value for money!  If I am going back to Baguio, I am definitely gonna stay in Newtown Hotel again!
They even have a swimming pool and a playground.

By the way, if you love wandering in a garden, and just be lost in time, the Botanical Garden is just a 5 minute walk from the hotel.  There’s also a coffee shop and some souvenir shops within the vicinity of the garden.

If you are bringing a car with you, better partner it with Waze.  Helps a lot in navigating through the mountains and hills of Baguio!

Happy Trippin’!

Food: The Goodness of 100% Buffalo Milk

Photo from Buffy’s Milk FB account

We are always left with no room for dessert after we have a meal.  So we decided to have desserts first!
Braved the drive from Batangas to Sta Rosa just to have a taste.  We don’t regret skipping dinner over pastillas and ice cream!

Buffy’s is a quaint little store that sells Fresh Buffalo Milk, Pastillas de Leche and Ice Cream made from Buffalo Milk!  Their products are all natural.  No preservatives.

Buffalo Milk.  So many flavors to choose from!  Our daughter chose the Chocolate Milk (Php250.00).  Both our daughters give their thumbs up!

Buffy’s Pastillas de Leche also comes in different flavors.  We decided to get the original one.

Pastillas de Leche (Php158.00)

The Ice Cream comes in 5 flavors: Original, Vanilla, Strawberry, Mocha and Ube.  (Php158.00)

Creamy and milky, not too sweet.

My new favorite ice cream.

Buffy’s Ube Flavored Ice Cream.

Like them on Facebook, Buffy’s Milk.

Disclaimer:  I am not a super fun of either milk or ube, but Buffy’s made a big difference.  Definitely worth the trip!

Food: Cafe Aquatica Manila

Good news for everyone!

Cafe Aquatica, that famous and relaxing fish shop / cafe in Greenhills, just opened their 2nd shop in Binondo, Manila!

It’s very near my workplace, about 5 minute walk.  This new branch is just a quaint coffee shop / restaurant.  Don’t expect something like their branch in Greenhills.

It still has those nice aquariums though.  And when you enter the place, it’s like you’re transported out of the hustle and bustle of Chinatown!

They don’t offer everything in this branch. The menu is limited

This is what we ordered.  Take note, we were only 2!

Appetizer: Nacho Cups

(super sulit – yummy and crunchy – only Php130.00)

Main Dish: Grilled Chicken & Spaghetti Alla Carbonara

Drinks: Almond Shake

They also offer a variety of cakes and I can’t wait to taste them all!

Let’s go to the Aquariums.

These are Albino Angel Fishes.  They are not available in the market.

I think the next one is called Mickey Platy because of its inborn black Mickey figure in its tail.

This next one is the Neon Fish.

If you’re in the area, why don’t  you try Cafe Aquatica. We went there for our lunch and it surely took away the stress we were feeling at work.  Such a relaxing place to be in.  With its extraordinary aquariums and soothing music, this one’s really a keeper!

Food Trip: Oh My Bap Burger

Impromptu movie date with hubby led us to an impromptu food trip at the Theatre Mall.  Many may not know that behind that huge facade of popular restaurants just outside Theater Mall, lies a food court filled with unique food ideas.

One of those is Oh My Bap Burger!  Check out their extensive menu and their very affordable prices.

When we saw this place, we got curious on what they are offering.  Korean Food in a Burger. Hmmm…

I had Bulgogi Bap Burger (Php94.00) It is basically an order of beef bulgogi with rice.  But it’s not served ordinarily.  It will be served as a burger.

The rice they used is sticky rice, so that it will form as burger buns.

The bulgogi was stuffed in between the rice burger buns.  I liked the taste of bulgogi, not too sweet and not too salty.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take a picture of the other bap burger as it was already devoured. Hubby’s order is Kimchi Bulgogi Burger.  Their kimchi is not spicy according to him.  It looked almost the same, except for the reddish orangey kimchi mixed with the beef bulgogi.

It’s very simple how they do it but that will be our secret for now.  You go and find out for yourself.

Food Trip: Meat Depot

New concept.  New idea.  New place.

Meat Depot is it!  Somewhere along Banawe, you’ll see a black and white signage.  It says Meat Depot / Wholesale Retail / Better Meat Better Price.

It definitely says it all.  So what do we expect? I’ll take you through the experience.

Upon entering the shop, it looks like your regular meat shop. All four walls surrounded by huge freezers.  There’s also the production area where everything is prepared.

Aside from being a meat shop where you purchase and take your meat home, you can immediately devour and satisfy the carnivore in you by simply going to the 2nd floor and have your meat cooked.

You only need to go through 5 easy steps.

1) choose your meat
From the open freezer, there are a variety of meat.  It’s vaccuum sealed so it’s not messy.  It’s already priced according to its type.  Packed in different sizes as well.

2) fill out your order slip

After choosing, you can go to the next step.  Fill up a form (one per meat).  Write your name and type of meat. Choose how you want your meat cooked, they call it the level of doneness.  You can pick the kind of sauce as well and of course, the sides – which are all carbs anyway.

3) choose your drinks and pay

Proceed to the cashier and pay for your orders.  Take note though that on top of the price of the meat, there is a cooking fee of Php100.00 per meat. It’s a fixed price so no need to worry about their weight.

Wide variety of drinks are also available.  Pairing steak with wine is normal so they have 3 kinds for you to try.  They also have sodas and some coffee.  They also serve desserts.

4) get utensils, spices and water at the self service station

While waiting for them to cook your food.  Prepare your utensils, get some spices and a glass of water at the self service station.

5) claim your cooked meat

During Step 2, you should have gotten a number which you’ll use to claim your order.

For 3 persons, we are on beast mode.  Picked 5 kinds of meat: 3 pork, 1 lamb and 1 beef.  Posted according its likeability.

The chicharon bulaklak tastes good but lacks crunchiness.  Love the vinegar dip though.

Shouldn’t have ordered the bacon.  Not crispy because it’s grilled.  You can feel that you’re chewing the fats.

The beef is tender but there were some parts that are very very chewy.

The Lamb Chops is up in my list.  Tender and meaty.  Sarap to the bones!

The Marinated Pork Chop is my favorite of all!  Tastier.  Meatier.  Just choose a packet that has lesser fats and you’re good to go!

Oh wait! The mashed potato is the bomb!  Freshly made with only pepper and salt.  No preservatives at all and surely not a pre mix!

I like that they specified how to go through the process.  I also love the industrial, no frill set up.

I will be back.  There’s so many others to try.  Will still purchase that Porkchop though!

Check Meat Depot’s Facebook Page  or drop by their Instagram Page to see what I’m talking about.

See you there!

Food Trip: Jollibee Adobo Flakes Yum Burger and Halo-Halo Sundae

A few hours after we came back to the Philippines, we find ourselves inside the leading fastfood chain in the country, Jollibee.

Always on the lookout for new items to try, I ordered a Value Meal with Burger, Drinks and Sundae.  Ironically, this meal was just launched last May 31, 2016.  (The day I left the country for a vacation.)  And it’s in time for celebrating our country’s independence.

image

Photo taken from Jollibee Facebook Page

The Jollibee Limited Edition Pinoy Favorites consist of Adobo Flakes Yum Burger (Php59.00) and Halo Halo Sundae (Php35.00).

image

I’d rather that this is also in a Rice Variant because I think the concentration of the sauce is too salty for a burger.  It’s the same as your yummy YUM burger but the original dressing is removed to give way for the tender flakes with sauce that’s put on top of the burger.  Overall, it’s tasty and a nice mash up burger.  Worth to try.

image

Next is the Halo Halo Sundae.  Oh this one I love the most.  It has your regular milky Vanilla sundae topped with Halo Halo toppings.  A few pieces of red and green Nata de Cocos, strips of macapuno, bits of beans, cuts of bananas and a finish of Ube syrup make up for this sundae.

I always love my halo halo with a lot of milk so the milkiness of the sundae is complementing it right.

I think these 2 should be permanent in Jollibee’s menu.  Not only do we take pride for being Filipinos who excel in whatever field we pursue, we also take pride in having lots of delicious Filipino foods.

So what are you waiting for, while Jollibee hasn’t decided to make this permanent yet, go ahead and try these while it’s there!

I will never get tired of having Jollibee for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  It has become a staple in my life.

#Ang sarap, ang saya maging Pilipino!
