Voucher Review – Cash Cash Pinoy – Gloria Maris

When: October 13, 2012
Where: Gloria Maris – Podium Branch
What: Set Menu B for 8 Persons
Price: Php 2295.00 valued at Php 4590.00 / savings: Php 2295.00

Groupon Site: Cash Cash Pinoy / Deal Here

There were actually 3 Set Menus to choose from, we chose Set Menu B.  The price is not that bad since it’s 50% off!  I’ve already made reservations for next Saturday at around 8pm.  We will be celebrating my mom’s birthday.

The Set Menu B consists of:

Eight treasures shrimp soup

Crispy Fried Asado roll

Seafood with Gold mushroom XO sauce

Steamed Lotus leaf glutinous rice with chicken

Fried spareribs with Shrimp sauce

Fujian fried noodles

Taho

Additional Dishes Ordered:

Sweet & Sour Pork

Chicken & Prawn Salad (should have been named Chicken Salad only, since there were only 2 prawns included in the dish!)

Update:  We were quite disappointed with the turn out of our dinner.  For the price, even if already at 50% off, we think it wasn’t worth it!  We could have gotten more of what we paid for in other Chinese restaurants.  Maybe we were just expecting too much!  The taste of the dishes was just so-so.  It’s like we’ve eaten at a non-Chinese restaurant.  The serving wasn’t the normal size that would be enough for 8 persons.  So we decided to order 2 more dishes.  That night, even a Saturday, there weren’t too many people dining at the Podium Branch, so you guessed it, service wasn’t that good either.  They served everything all at the same time.  In a hurry?  Isn’t lauriat supposed to be served one after the other?  Or at least, they let us savor the dish first before serving the next.  Even the trademark Taho wasn’t good!  Our neighborhood Taho vendor serves taho better!

There were only 2 things I was happy about with this experience.  First was that they didn’t charge us for the cake we brought in.  Lastly, they didn’t ask us to leave when they closed.  (We were the last diners there!)

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this voucher a 4!  And I wouldn’t recommend this branch to anyone.  I still prefer the original Gloria Maris in Greenhills, San Juan.

Voucher Review – Cash Cash Pinoy – Cyma

Where: Cyma Greek Taverna in Eastwood City

What:  Ala Carte Menu

Price: Php 1,000.00 valued at Php 2,000.00 / savings: Php 1,000.00 (We had 2 vouchers. Aside from the Php 2,000 we paid for the vouchers, we paid an additional Php1,000.00 because we ordered a lot of food! )

Cyma

For my daughter’s post 2nd birthday celebration, we went ahead to Cyma Greek Taverna at Eastwood City.  We called up to reserve our slot as we always do. That’s the first thing we do if we are to avail of a voucher!

We were a few minutes early and the place wasn’t packed yet, since we reserved an early dinner time slot.  The staff were all accommodating. They showed us our table and asked for the vouchers.  (One thing not to forget also! Bring the voucher!) We bought 2 vouchers. A voucher is good for 2 persons only. We were 4 plus my little princess.

We had a few pictures taken while waiting for our order. See how our little princess be all cute and ah, cuter!

Then some more pictures…

After sometime, the food finally arrived. First was the Soupa (soup) Mommy ordered (which I am sorry I forgot what it’s called).  It was a French Onion Soup, the taste was just right.

Next to come was the Orektika (appetizer), I ordered their Spinach and Artichoke Fondue, which turned out was a house specialty and really appetizing. Just like the soup, the saltiness was just right. You can actually taste the spinach. The melting cheese on top made it yummier! It was served with 3 slices of pita bread and 3 slices of toasted garlic bread, which actually made us full already!

Spinach and Artichoke Fondue

And here’s a picture of Daphne eating her pita bread.  She loved it.

Our family loves anything lamb. So we ordered 2 dishes of lamb meat. The first was a Souvlakia Souvlaki which was skewered lamb meat with vegetables.  More like the Kebabs of the Persians.  The skewered lamb meat was served with 3 full pita bread and garlic sauce.

The other dish we ordered was another house specialty, it was the Paidakia. It was grilled lamb ribs served with potatoes.

Both lamb dishes were grilled to perfection I must say.  The true taste of the lamb came out very savoury.  I just squeezed some lemon juice over it and boom, yumminess! The lamb meat were also very tender.

As much as I would like to try their Glyka (desserts), there’s no more room. That is why I would go back to Cyma again, maybe sooner than later, to try out the other specialty dishes and of course, their desserts. Rating? I give it 5 out of 5 stars. Cyma makes a very healty choice of a restaurant for me and my family! Good food, good service, good ambience – what else could we ask for?

Voucher Review – Cash Cash Pinoy – Chateau Royale

When: January 28 – 29, 2012
Where: Chateau Royale in Batangas
What: Enjoy 2D/1N of Fun and Relaxation / Good for 4 people                Price: Php 1999.00 valued at Php 4200.00 / savings: Php 2201.00

My hubby bought 2 coupons so we could bring the whole family!  The picture above is the front lawn of Chateau Royale. Inside is the reception area and the different indoor activities you could do. Though we weren’t able to enjoy those anymore due to lack of time.  The cafe is just outside the lobby and the beach inspired pool area! Which we also weren’t able to try because the weather’s too cool for my 18 month old daughter!

Here’s a picture of me and baby – background the playground on the pool.

Here’a another photo of the pool area, you can see the sand beside the pool!

A picture of my brother in law and baby – background our log cabin inspired rooms!

Forgot to take pictures inside the room, but it’s really big. It can fit more than 4 people. The only downside was, there’s only 1 bed which can sleep 2 people, the other 2 would have to sleep on the floor, on 2 uncomfortable mattresses. Since the room was big, they should have put another bed in there. Oh, and the air conditioning in 1 room drips. Didn’t bother to complain about that also. We were too tired already, we just moved the bed away from the dripping air con!

There were a lot of cabinets you can use if you are staying for a longer period. And if you’re many.

We didn’t get to do much on Day 1 since we arrived late in the afternoon already. And we also went out to dinner at Tagaytay which was only a 15 minute drive away if there was no slow car in front of you!

On Day 2, we all woke up early and availed of the free breakfast at the Chateau’s Cafe.  I thought it was a buffet free for all, I was wrong! You only get to choose 1 viand – Corned Beef or Ham plus a sunny side up egg and garlic rice to complete the meal. For the drinks, you get to choose from coffee or orange juice!

Here’s my breakfast!

I realized there’s not much to complain about since we got our rooms on a discount. At Php 2,ooo or Php 500 per person, a free set breakfast is fine already!

After breakfast, we strolled along the vast compound. Here’s a photo of the whole family in the driveway!

We went to the fishing pond, there were some guests who actually caught fishies from that green pond! For a fee, though!

Then we posed for another family pic in one of the wooden benches in the park.

Then we saw some horses! The mother horse is tied but the little pony is not. And it’s free to roam around the whole compound.

The Manong was kind enough to saddle up the mama horse so that my little one could ride atop of it for picture taking, for free of course!

The Chateau Royale, aside from really having a large area for guests to enjoy and connect with nature, they also boasts of lots and lots of green houses where organic vegetables are farmed. And they sell them to tourists as well.

The staff were nice and accommodating, it was fast and easy to check in and out. The whole place is secured, you can see guards roaming around even at night. Aside from those stationed at the gate who checks the people who comes and goes.. The rooms have triple locks installed at the doors. The whole place is relatively clean and green. I say 4 out 5 stars for this resort.

Another family photo with the Chateau Royale Tarpaulin as background inside the lobby.

And that caps off our experience at the Chateau Royale Batangas.

See you there!

Voucher Review – Cash Cash Pinoy – Seasons at the Manila Pavilion

When: September 23, 2011 Where: Seasons at the Manila Pavilion What: International Buffet Dinner with Unlimited Chilled Juices            Price: Php 699.00 valued at Php 1200.00 / savings: Php 501.00

me & daphne at the entrance of seasons

To celebrate my sister in law’s birthday, we dined at Seasons at the Manila Pavilion.  We didn’t encounter any problem with reservations, confirmation and actual usage of the voucher.  In fact, we were warmly welcomed by the receptionists.

The only problem in Manila Pavilion is their lack of parking space. And in their small parking area, you have to leave the keys of your car so that they could move it around when needed.

Anyway, back to Seasons. I was with my husband, my sister in law and my mother in law, and of course, my daughter and her yaya! To my amazement, the manager, I think Abe was his name, offered my yaya something to eat from the buffet. When I told him that she already ate at home, he then told me, “dessert na lang po, ako na ang bahala.” Meaning, free of charge! I joked that I would just leave my yaya to pay for what she’s going to eat. He smiled.

That for me was very important and it will forever remain in my memory. That should be the kind of service everyone in the service industry gives! Because of that, he was the one who got the tip from me! And my hubby directly gave it to him!

As for the dinner, the food was so-so! There were only a few selections of Japanese makis and sushis. The salmon wasn’t fresh.  Even my favorite california maki wasn’t available. The Japanese staple Tempura wasn’t available either.  The food from the other cuisines was too dry, as my MIL puts it. Maybe it was cooked way too early before diners came.

Good thing, you could ask the chef to cook some dish. I saw someone ordered Butter Garlic Shrimp, so we ordered that too! The first 2 were good and yummy! The last one didn’t taste buttery or garlicky at all! It tasted like shrimp swimming in water. 🙁

My favorite Peking Duck was available, but even that didn’t excite me much! It was too thinly sliced, you couldn’t taste it anymore!

I can’t think of a dish that really took us in awe, except for the salmon with mango dressing. And the grilled squids with stuffed shrimps! Nothing else caught our attention so we just enjoyed the very beautiful ambience. I admit their lighting fixtures are really exquisite. But you can’t eat that, right?

One thing I ALMOST thoroughly enjoyed was the Mango Strawberry Crepe with Strawberry Ice Cream I ordered! The crepe was buttery and milky and soft, the mango was sweet and sour at the same time, the strawberry was yummy also, but then, as I was finishing my ice cream off, I noticed a plastic like sheet. At first I thought it was just ice. But as I scrape it off, the plastic like sheet was really plastic after all! And a big piece at that!

I didn’t freak out as I know that it wasn’t intentional, but I immediately called the other manager and told her that there was plastic in my ice cream. She offered to make me a new one, I begged off!

There goes my unfortunate experience with Seasons, you need not ask if I will dine there again or not, because the answer is pretty much obvious!

The only consolation for us was that we were able to take some photos of ourselves and the cake (without corkage!).

Here is a photo of our family! Never mind the bulging tummies of the mommy & the daddy, it wasn’t because of the food, it was because of the juice!

Seasons get 2 out of 5 stars! If only for the good service!

Voucher Review – Cash Cash Pinoy – Sakae Sushi

When: July 24, 2011
Where: Sakae Sushi / Robinson’s Place Manila Branch
What: Delectable SUSHI-All-You-Can + Miso Soups + Bottomless Hot or Cold Green Tea

Price: Php 1549.00 valued at Php 2634.00 / savings: Php 1085.00

Review:

We went to Robinson’s Place Manila because we had bought a voucher from Cash Cash Pinoy for Sushi-All-You-Can at Sakae Sushi! It was for a group of 6 people, but we were only 5 then. We had a reservation at 2:30pm and we were there early. We were waiting outside so I know when there’s a vacancy or not.  I saw a group left so I walked inside the restaurant even if it was a few minutes too early (no one was outside to assist us!), I directly went to the Cashier to say that we were the ones who made a reservation to avail of the voucher.  I was told that we could sit down and take the vacant place, we’ll just have to wait for them to buss it out.  While they were cleaning the table, 2 people walked in and they seated them at our table! I immediately complained to the Cashier, only to be told that that section was supposedly for walk ins and that section was closed for promo availments! What the Heck?!? All I can see seated there at that section was groups of 5 or 6!

Anyway, I don’t want to ruin our mood, so I patiently waited for us to be seated. When we were finally seated, I can sense that there was some kind of animosity from the service crew.  They weren’t that accommodating. Oh well, I guess that’s what you get for not paying in full!

We weren’t able to take pictures because my daughter was with us and she was having mild tantrums then.  The only picture I was able to take was my daughter enjoying her chopsticks and plate from Sakae Sushi!

Ain’t she a cute little one? 🙂

Back to my story, one thing that my taste buds won’t forget was their Cold Green Tea. It was yummy and it didn’t taste like tea at all! Good thing it was bottomless! My mother in law said that the Hot Green Tea was also good! As for their Sushis, we noticed that it goes out of the conveyor belt or the Sushi Train by batch. So you have to really be alert if you want to taste new kinds of sushi before it runs out. Also, for those not eating sushi-all-you-can, the sushi are differentiated by the color of the plates, like purple plates at Php39.00, yellow plates at Php59.00, green plates at Php 79.00 and red plates at a whopping Php99.00 per plate!

Since we knew that the red plates are the most expensive ones, we looked out for sushis on red plates! And these were also the sushis that are new to our sight, those that can’t be seen in ordinary Japanese Restos, especially, Japanese Fast Foods! I can’t remember all the sushis that we tasted, but definitely, some were good, some were so-so, some were really not yummy at all!

So here are the good ones, I remember eating a salad and it tasted good. Then, there were the simple sushis with crab roes on top of them, I loved those also! Their octopus’ sushi was also yummy. They have this fried salmon, yumminess! Of course, I wouldn’t forget to eat my fave of all, California Maki. But I must say, I’ve tasted better Makis before.

Oh by the way, I am not a fan of Japanese Food.  That is basically the reason why my review isn’t that detailed when it comes to the food that we ate!

To wrap this up, if not for the Cold Green Tea, I would have rated Sakae Sushi lesser. But since I love the drink, I am giving Sakae Sushi a passing grade, 3 out of 5 stars! But the service is still 1 out of 5 stars!

PS. You wouldn’t hear me discussing about raw foods because I am still breastfeeding and raw foods are no-nos!
