The new wing of Powerplant Mall houses a unique kind of food hall that focuses on the food they serve rather than their “brand.”
The Grid Food Market did away with individual branding of the food stalls. Instead, they focused on what specialty that food stall has to offer.
The hall was divided into a number of stalls representing different cuisines each.
The first thing that caught my attention was the wine & cheese stall by Estrella Galicia. You can order wines by the glass. Cool, right? 🍾
Next is the Thai Resto.
This huuuuge Porkchop is called Tank XL (literally XL!) served with Pulled Pork and Monggo Beans. This dish gets my thumbs up! It might look dry and looks like it’s a tough cut of meat, but in reality, it’s juicy and tender. The breading’s tasty and crunchy too! This is a pork version of the chicken from Bad Bird.
I am a fan of ‘gata’ (coconut base) dishes but this one doesn’t get my approval. The leaves in this Green Curry Laing should have been polverized more. The leaves definitely leaves a very bitter taste in your mouth, literally! And the chicharon on top’s so oily that when you bite, the oil comes oozing out.
There is also a Japanese Resto which serves Tsukemen and Ramen. My friend ordered Karaage for her kids. Would try their Tsukemen next time.
Their Karaage looks crunchy.
Another stall we tried and has a long line is this one, Le Chon by Happy Ongpauco-Tiu. Taking lechon into the next level by applying French techniques in cooking it.
1st step is to choose your own lechon – pork, beef, chicken or fish.
2nd step is to choose the rub.
3rd step is to choose the sides.
4th step is to choose the kind of rice.
Last and final step is to choose your sauce.
The Lechon Porchetta’s meat was really tender and juicy. That huge ‘balat’ (skin) you see on top was super crunchy, even the kids loved it. This is a must try especially for Lechon fans.
A different take on one of the most well loved Filipino dishes.
My friend ordered Potato Tots from the burger joint.
The hashbrown-like potato tots with cheese is something new. For sharing with a group of people who loves carbs.
For Seafood lovers, they also have seafood rolls.
The lobster roll was already sold out so I guess it’s also good. I got to take a photo of their crab roll while waiting to be picked up. It’s priced cheaper compared to Luke’s Lobster which could set you back by Php1,000.00 or more.
Of course, a food hall like this should always have something sweet to offer. They have Workshop by Le Petit Souffle.
Cakes, brownies, tarts – all for your picking!
Other stalls have yet to open, so hopefully, they will be the next time we visit.
If you are looking for something unique and you would like to feel the vibe here, visit The Grid Food Market at the Powerplant Mall in Rockwell.
It’s that time of the year again. Before Christmas, we mommies busy ourselves with finding the best costumes for our babies. And also, looking for the most suitable Halloween event for them.
Last year, my daughter Daphne had a blast experiencing her first Trick or Treat. She went as Eency Weency Spider, she was just 1 year and 3 months then. But she knew how to ask for candies aka treats already! We had fun at last year’s Scaredy Cats and Dogs at Eastwood. It was a Halloween event for the benefit of PAWS.
And this is Daphne when we got home, with all her treats! Still hyper and super happy!
This year, I still haven’t figured out yet where we will go. It’s only the first week of the month and some of the usual Halloween events organizers haven’t announced their events yet. But here’s what I got for now. Hope this helps all the mommies out there looking for such events!

Party like a Rockstar at Shang’s Rockin’ Halloween Party / October 28, 2012
Shangri-La Mall will hold its Halloween Party on October 28, 2012 at the Grand Atrium, from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Registration will start on October 13, 2012 at the Admin Office. Tickets are at Php500.00 per child aged 1 year old to 12 years old. There are only 250 slots available so hurry mommies and register asap before slots ran out.
Today is the Registration Day at the Shang. We went there around 10:30 am and boy, was there a line already! We were fortunate enough to be included in the Green Team. The first batch to register. There were four colors and each color has 60 slots according to Erwin, the admin who was in charge of the line. It took an hour for us to finish because of the downtime in their server and well, a not so organized admin team. In that 1 hour, we were given a registration form to fill up (color coded) and we have to wait (again) in line to pay and wait for the Official Receipt they will issue. They also gave us a bond paper sized registration procedure during the actual event day. I hope the event team will be more organized that day!
For those who would want to register their kids, I suggest you call their concierge first to ensure there are tickets left. Only 250 slots are available, and since we were number 56 already out of the first 60 slots, and the line was so long after we left the admin office, I think it might be sold out already. But there’s nothing wrong with trying! Call them at 370-2500.

Rock the City at the Rockwell Tent / October 28, 2012
Rockwell’s Power Plant Mall will hold its Halloween event “Rock the City – a 100% Rockwell Halloween Hit” at the Rockwell Tent on October 28, 2012. Tickets are at Php 600.00 for 1 child and 1 adult. Additional adults will have to shell out another Php 100.00 each to get in. It seems Glam-Rock is the “in” theme this year, according to Power Plant Mall’s Facebook Page, they urge the participants to come in glam-rock costumes and their event will consist of having the participant’s hair sprayed, nail and face painted and being part of a rock band. Aside from the magic shows and other entertainment they will provide. I think Rockwell’s event is for more mature kids already, kids aged 5 up.
By the way, they posted the announcement yesterday, October 12, Friday. And it was noted in the announcement that there are only limited tickets and they have started selling yesterday afternoon! So call their concierge first before going there to ensure that there are still tickets left.
Scaredy Cats & Dogs at Eastwood City / October 27, 2012
I can’t find the actual announcement yet. I already checked Eastwood City’s Facebook Page and Paws Website, I can’t seem to find their announcement. But a concerned mommy told me that the event will be held on October 27, 2012. Just watch out for my update on this.
*Update: Finally, Eastwood announced its annual Halloween event. Just like last year’s, it will still be for the benefit of PAWS!
Pets are the stars during the morning event, kids during the afternoon event. Registration for the pets starts at 9am, kids at 12nn. The costume competition for the pets will be around 10am, while the kids’ costume competition will be 3pm. Trick or Treat around the mall for both pets and kids should start at 5pm. The fee of Php250.00 will benefit the PAWS Animal Shelter. It comes with Free Loot Bag and Face Painting for the registrants.
Cartoon Network’s Halloween Heroes Haunt at SM Megamall / October 27 & 28, 2012
SM Megamall’s Halloween Event will be held 2 days. This is for tomorrow already (sorry for the late post, it was just earlier this day that I learned of their event). I’m not so sure about the mechanics of the Haunted Maze. I can’t find the mechanics in SM Megamall’s Facebook Page. There is a Php 500.00 purchase at Toy Kingdom if you want to join the Haunt. This is an all day event. However, as this event proceeds, another Halloween event is simultaneously happening around 1 to 5pm on the Event Center, Meet and Greet with Ben 10’s Omniverse’s alien, BLOXX! You can have your scary picture taken with BLOXX! Though I’m not sure if you need another Php500.00 purchase for this.
On October 28, 2012, the Mall Wide Trick or Treat is going to happen.
For this, an Php800.00 single or accumulated purchase is needed. Receipts should be dated October 28, 2012. You will be given a List of Tenants included in the event when you register and present your receipt at the Registration Booth in the Event Center. You have to complete at least 10 Tenants to be able to redeem your Loot Bag at the Redemption Booth, also in the Event Center.
Hollyween at Market! Market! / October 28, 2012
Market! Market! will be holding its event on October 28, 2012. A minimum purchase of Php 500.00 is needed to be able to join. For each participant, a passport will be given. For example, a receipt of Php 1501.00 will entitle 3 participants to 3 passports. The receipts should be dated October 28, 2012. The event will be held at the Ground Floor of the New Wing. These passports will entitle a participant to join in on the activities, like Face Painting, Photo Booth and Magic Show.
There is another event though, I am just not so sure if you need a separate receipt for this and the passport. You have to present a Php 500.00 purchase to be able to get a Hollyween Lootbag. You can get it at the Hollyween Treat Shop located also at Ground Floor of the new wing.
Trick or Treat around the mall will be from 2 to 5pm! Bet you’ll enjoy all the activities with your kids!
Thanks again! 2 more weeks, so excited for my baby!
